YouTube Chapter Generator
Build clean chapter timestamps and check they meet YouTube's rules so chapters actually appear on your video.
One chapter per line, e.g. 0:00 Intro
Turns your video's timestamps into properly formatted YouTube chapters and flags anything that breaks YouTube's rules, so the chapter bar actually shows up. Use it after you've outlined your video's sections but before you paste them into the description.
How to use the Chapter Generator
- 1. Paste your timestamps and section titles, one per line (e.g. 0:00 Intro)
- 2. Let the tool format them and check them against YouTube's requirements
- 3. Fix any flagged issues, like a missing 0:00 start or a chapter under 10 seconds
- 4. Copy the validated list and paste it into your video description
FAQ
YouTube only enables chapters when three conditions are met: the first timestamp is 0:00, there are at least 3 chapters, and every chapter is 10 seconds or longer. Miss any one and the chapter bar won't appear. This tool checks all three.
Three is the minimum YouTube requires. Beyond that, match the count to your content. Most viewers do fine with one chapter per real section, so a 10-minute tutorial often lands around 5 to 8 chapters rather than dozens of tiny ones.
Yes. Chapters must be listed in chronological order, starting at 0:00 and increasing from there. Out-of-order or duplicate timestamps will stop chapters from working, and the tool will point those out.
Paste the formatted list into your video's description box. That's the only place YouTube reads them from; there's no separate chapter field. They'll then show as segments on the progress bar and in a list below the video.
